SFO Terminal 2
San Francisco Airport Commission – Associate Architect with Gensler
San Francisco International Airport’s renovated Terminal 2 (T2) sets a new benchmark for contemporary air travel in a terminal highlighting the Bay Area’s distinct culture through its design, art and regional cuisine.
The renovation and expansion included seismic upgrades, office space, lobby, ticketing areas, security, food and beverage facilities, retail space, baggage areas, terminal lounges, two children’s play areas, and gates.
The project transformed Terminal 2, the former international terminal dating back to the 1950s, from a 10-gate wide-body facility into a 14 narrow-body and single wide-body gate configuration for domestic airlines.
The terminal is the first LEED Gold certified terminal in the United States. The 640,000-square-foot terminal features progressive sustainability measures to inspire people to live more sustainably.
T2 was renovated by the design/build team of Turner Construction and Gensler, with Hamilton+Aitken Architects as associate architect.
