Lakeshore Elementary School
San Francisco USD
Modernization of the existing Lakeshore Elementary School, and construction of a new classroom wing.
The new classroom wing is designed to be bid based on several possible pre-approved, pre-checked modular building designs for slab-on-grade construction, allowing the District to take advantage of competitive bidding, while still realizing advantages in reduced construction cost and decreased construction time for the new classroom wing.
The new wing maximizes natural daylight through the use of shaded windows and skylights – on most days, no electric lighting is required in the classrooms. Both inside and out, the finished classroom building is indistinguishable from a conventional, stick-built school building.
Modernization included general classrooms, library, multi-use building, and extensive accessibility renovations. Building systems improvements included energy-saving improvements like new energy management and lighting systems; new fire alarm, data / telecom and clock-bell systems; and all new toilet rooms.
